Best Winter Blues: Indigo Dyeing & Thiox Discharge
Art and Soul Studio
Sat, Jan 13 10:00 am

Wow, what electric and dreamy blues! And mysterious disappearing hues! In this Saturday session, participants will explore two engaging processes: Indigo Dyeing and Thiox Discharge. You’ll learn how to set up, care for, and maintain an indigo vat, and explore various ombre, low-water immersion, and Shibori techniques – folding, clamping, stitching and binding – to create beautiful and graphic resists. You’ll also learn how to prepare a hot thiox discharge pot for a cool color-removal process – denim and plaid flannels work well so you should bring some of those with you: jeans or plaid flannel shirts, scarves, sleepwear, pillowcases, old curtains, bags, etc. Get ready for the enthusiastic oohs and ahhs as we pull our fabrics from the vats! Those who complete this day-long workshop can return the following day for a half-day Open Studio with Lexie to continue the dyeing journey.
